God Reveals Himself

The day came when a voice came to all people. It wasn’t so much through their ears as in their minds. All people heard the voice each in their own language; even their own dialect. And it was personal, as if the voice were speaking only to each person.
The voice said, “I am coming. The time has come for you to see me. I will appear to you on the corner of 5th Avenue and 86th St. in New York City on Saturday, April 29th.”
That was it. That’s all he said. It was a cool, quiet, deep voice, clear and unmistakable. There was no doubt who’s voice it was to anyone except the harshest of nonbelievers.
The world went crazy. Newspapers, televisions, radio, talk on the street and office were filled with nothing but discussion about those 34 words. After all, how could there be. Since Cro-Magnon man sat on the warm rocks at night peering into the bottomless sky wondering about the inventor of the world, His face and voice could only be guessed at. Many claimed to hear His voice but they all appeared to be unstable.
But now, finally, He was coming. And the atheists and agnostics had their tails between their legs. Ha! Now they’ll see.
After things settled down, everyone pondered just what God would tell them. It had to be important, even life changing. It had to be a new beginning? It had to be some sort of very big shake up.
The whole population of earth was treating their neighbors with a newfound kindness. The cigarette, prostitution, and gambling industries folded overnight. National borders fell as food and medicine flowed to those in need like never before. People were stumbling over each other to poor out the milk of human kindness. Cursing ended; guns were hurled into rivers like confetti on New Years Eve. Prayer was everywhere; in churches, mosques, synagogues and temples of all types.
On the wonderful day, the tide of humanity filled the streets of New York to the edges of the island. Helicopters and planes filled the immediate sky like locusts resulting in several deadly collisions thus sending some to God early. Rich and important people had managed to get close to the spot but even they were overwhelmed by the unmovable desire by all of humanity to be there. The rest were left to watch on television.
Minutes before the designated time the tension reached a palpable level. The most important moment in the history of mankind was nigh. At a few seconds before noon, the wall of voices died to an unimaginable quiet. How could millions of humans be as quiet as a ghost town?
And then, the clocks struck noon and a billion breaths were held, a billion heads turned and two billion eyes were focused on one spot. Silence and stillness filled the world. All of humanity’s hopes and dreams turned on this moment. A beat, then two, and then a spectacular shower of sparks exploded and fell from the top of the Nelson/Stacey building on the exact corner of 5th Avenue and 86th street. When the sparks died and the blue-white smoke cleared, everyone could see with no mistake; a huge, shiny, blue/gray, barnacled humpbacked whale with tail and head held high, perched somewhat precariously on the top corner of the building.
A great, no, a monumental puzzlement filled exactly every mind of every human on the earth at the same moment. Such a thing had never happened before. There were six billion furrowed brows and six billion gaping mouths.
Then, a great and loud voice came from the whale and spoke again so that the whole world could hear and understand. And the voice said, “I am here. I have come to give good news to all of you. I have come to fulfill all of your deepest and dearest dreams. I have come to create a new heaven on Earth where all shall live in the deepest happiness for eternity. I have come to heal the world and make it whole.”
There was a stunned silence; a deep and profound silence. Moments passed. And then deep within the crowd a single voice cried out, “Get that whale off of the building. God is coming!”
Like plutonium gone to critical mass, the voices instantly rose to deafening, unbearable levels. All the voices were repeating the same mantra: “Get the whale off the building, God is coming. Get the whale off the building, God is coming!”
The whale spoke to them saying, “I am your God, come to fulfill your dreams. I have come to bring heaven on earth!”
But the crowd would hear none of it and they chanted, “Get the whale off the building, God is coming.”
At that point, in a spectacular shower of sparks and blue-white smoke, the whale disappeared.

I love it, because you know that if there is a god, it will not be what anyone has contrived it to be...and they of course will be bummed....
