I Know What I Did Last Summer, Pt. 1

Just finished up our trip to the Southwest. And the key words are; sky, art and food.
Yes, there is a sky down there. It was so clear you could see into the future. Ba-dum-bum. But seriously folks . . . . . I’ll be here all week.
We started by flying to Tucson. Drove through some seguaro (see-WAR-o) cactuses (cacti?). They are the ones that look like a group of guys being held up. Also ocotillo cactuses (o-ko-TEE-o) that look like strands of razor wire standing on end, and function the same way.
Then to Bisbee. It was more charming than we even expected. We are looking for possible places to move and we developed a bar graph in our minds to rate a place. Bisbee rated the highest in the quirk factor. It’s insinuated into a canyon so that there is no one place in town that’s on the level. And that includes the Mayor. Ba-dum-bum. Most of the houses are Victorian built during the heyday of the Copper Queen Mine.
The open pit mine is right outside of town and looks like an enormous rotted tooth has been pulled leaving a gaping wound the size of Fresno. I have nick-named it the “Richard M. Nixon Memorial. Around it are orange slag heaps that, except for their color, are beginning to look as if they belong there.
If Bisbee is high on quirk, it’s low on services. You have to drive about five miles to buy a battery, wash clothes, or go to a movie. Here’s a link if you’re interested (Or, if you are not).
Bisbee
A few miles away is the famous, or infamous, town of Tombstone. Even though it has the required 268 geegaw shops, it was still interesting. Much of the town remains as it was in 1876. They even have 20 or 30 people dressed in full western regalia, beards and mustaches walking around as if they got stuck in time. And that's just the women. Ba-dum. Either they are paid by the city or if they have personal identification issues.
Even the OK Corral is there although you can’t see it because it’s walled in. You have to pay to go in, sit in the bleachers, and watch guys dressed like other guys pretend to shoot each other dead. Very American.
More to come.

Bisbee sounds very interesting.I can't wait to see pictures. So I take it you haven't decided whether you are going to move there or not.

No, we were excited about it before we visited. It was still very interesting but it moved down the list as to livability. It's still on the list though.

I visited Tombstone one time when I was in Arizona visiting friends...interesting little town caught in a time warp. We didn't watch the show but hung out checking out the other sites and had some fabulous lunch at one of the more famous saloons.

I hope you don't move to Arizona just because it is so far away (assuming I ever get back to the NW) and because sometimes I don't agree with the state's politics.
